Knitting Folio Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

General

Knitting Folio runs on your devices. There is no Knitting Folio account, no Knitting Folio server, and no analytics of any kind.

The app contains no networking of its own — no third-party frameworks, and no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services. It does not track you across apps or websites. I never receive your projects, photos, notes or counts, and have no way to. Nothing is sold or shared.

The only services the app uses are Apple’s, on your behalf: iCloud, and the connection between your iPhone and Apple Watch. Both are covered below.

If you have turned on Share with App Developers in your device settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with me. That is Apple’s feature, governed by Apple, and you can turn it off at any time.

What is stored on your device

  • Your projects — names, notes, needle size, garment size, yarn, the photo you chose, and when each was started or finished.
  • Your counters — their names and counts.
  • Settings — such as how project cards are displayed.

iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, your projects and counters sync across your devices through CloudKit’s private database. That database belongs to your Apple Account. I cannot read it, and no one else can either — it is not a service I operate, and the app never uses CloudKit’s public database.

If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything stays on the device and the app works the same.

Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Photos

You can add a photo to a project. The app uses the system photo picker, so it sees only the photo you pick and never your library. That photo is stored with the project, on your device and in your private iCloud database if sync is on. It is never uploaded anywhere else.

Apple Watch

The Watch app shows your counters and lets you change them. Your iPhone sends it the names of your projects and counters, their counts and their colours — never your photos or notes — and the Watch sends back the changes you make. This happens directly between your own devices through Apple’s WatchConnectivity framework, not through any server of mine.

Purchases

Knitting Folio is a paid app, sold through the App Store. Payment is between you and Apple: the app never sees your payment details or your Apple Account.

Children

Knitting Folio collects nothing, so it collects nothing from children either. There is no chat, no user-generated content shared with others, no advertising, and nothing to sign up for.

Deleting your data

  • Delete a project — removes it from the app. It is kept, hidden, in your own storage, so a mistaken tap cannot lose a project’s history.
  • Delete the app — removes everything stored on the device.
  • Remove the iCloud copy — delete the app’s data from iCloud in your system settings, under your Apple Account. This erases everything, including deleted projects.
